Knowing your goal and the answer to the question, “Where do you want to be five years from now?” is a bit complicated. What must be understood in this question is the word ‘now’ is something that is changing and is very much dependent on the current economy.
Considering the fast-paced world any industry is working on today, it is almost a mortal sin to be clear on the specificity of your plans or goals.
When asked, instead of answering specific scenarios like “I plan on being the senior supervisor of this company”, try answering “I intend on continuing my practice in this industry.” Know that your response really depends on your intent in applying for the job. But keep in mind that in answering this question, you must be specific enough to let them know you have a goal but also flexible enough to suggest that you have an understanding of how the business or industry is running.
